Frequently Asked Helium Questions

Q – When should I fill my helium balloons?

A – We advise that you fill your balloons 1-2 hours prior to your event.

Q – How long do helium balloons last?

A – Correctly filled latex balloons will stay inflated for around 6-8 hours, whilst you can expect foil balloons to stay inflated for a few days – a common mistake is to fill latex balloons the night before, only to wake up to deflated balloons the next day.

Q – My cylinder feels empty and really light – help!

A – When you receive your helium cylinder, you may be alarmed at how light it is! This is completely normal – please remember that helium is a gas that is lighter than air, thus the weight of the cylinder is really light.

Helium Canister Safety Advice

Using disposable helium cylinders at home is much cheaper and easier than most people imagine.  Helium gas is lighter than air, non–toxic and non-flammable, however it is important to take the appropriate care to ensure you use the cylinders in the correct and safe manner.  As the helium is contained in a pressurised cylinder it is classed as a hazardous item, however by taking the correct precautions it is both easy and safe to use in the home.  Please always follow the safety advice below:

  • Always store below 50°C.
  • Do NOT store in direct sun, or apply heat or flame.
  • Do NOT inhale helium.
  • Handle with care, and do not drop or subject cylinder to rough handling.
  • Never drag a cylinder along the ground.
  • Keep out of reach of children at all times.
  • Please check and read the full safety guidelines included with each canister before use.

How To Dispose Of Helium Tank

A common question asked by our customers is ‘how do I dispose of my helium canister after use?’.  Our disposable helium cylinders are recyclable, however you shouldn’t put them with your normal waste.  Please find further information below on how to safely dispose of your helium cylinder:

  • Do not dispose of the cylinder with your normal household waste or recycling.
  • Ensure the cylinder is completely empty by taking it outside and releasing the remaining helium. This will remove any residual pressure left in the tank and deem it safe for recycling.
  • Leaving the valve open, pierce the cylinder bursting disc. This is a depressed circle located on the cylinder shoulder.
  • The cylinder can now be safely recycled at your local Recycling Centre.
